Celebrating Stained Glass

In 2024, Memory Lane published a very special type of mindful colouring experience – ‘WONDERFUL WINDOWS – CREATIVE COLOURING’. The book’s purpose was to celebrate the majestic stained-glass of Britain and Ireland’s best-loved cathedrals and churches, whilst providing the user with the opportunity to add their own creative touch to the stunning designs.
With the promise of the book being available to sell in cathedral giftshops, many of the country’s best loved ecclesiastical destinations were eager to participate with the inclusion of a representative window; Westminster Abbey, Bath Abbey, Winchester Cathedral, St George’s Chapel (Windsor Castle), Saint Patrick’s Cathedral (Dublin), St Giles’ Cathedral (Edinburgh), to name just a few.
The painstaking job of illustrating the book’s windows fell on 18-year-old Evie Belle Humphries, daughter of Memory Lane’s founder and director. From the majesty of York Minster’s medieval Rose Window to the intricacy of the latter-day Peace Window at Canterbury Cathedral, Evie faithfully reproduced highly detailed illustrations of 20 cathedral windows, each an exquisite example of the stained-glass maker’s art.
Fast forward a year and Evie is already celebrating the sale of 2000 copies of WONDERFUL WINDOWS! Quite the success story for a young artist who is now studying illustration as a first-year degree student at Middlesex University. But the publication’s commercial success is also testament to a great idea and the very special subject matter. It’s a book for all ages and it’s a book full of meaning. Indeed, WONDERFUL WINDOWS is a colouring book like no other.
